As Real Madrid set a new UEFA Champions League record by being the first football club to win the trophy back to back, Spanish defender Sergio Ramos appeared to wrap a ‘Nigerian’ flag around his waist.
The distinctive green-white-green flag was obvious and made many fans wonder why he was wearing it.
He was indeed wearing a green and white flag but it was not the Nigerian flag.
It’s actually the Andalusian flag which looks exactly like the Nigerian flag.
Andalusia is an autonomous region in the southern part of Spain. The capital is Seville. Sergio Ramos was born in Seville and started his football career with Sevilla, the local club of the region before moving on to Real Madrid where he has won fifteen major titles till date.
Sergio Ramos García is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for and captains both, Real Madrid and the Spain national football team. A central defender, he can also play as a right back.
After emerging through Sevilla’s youth academy, Ramos went on to become a mainstay for Real Madrid where he has won 15 major honours and developed into one of La Liga’s top scorers from a defensive position.
